Valentines Dinner/Concert Fundraiser: Italy Restaurant February 16 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Come be a part of this first annual event. There will be romantic music and entertainment provided by SHHS choir members to accompany your favorite Italian cuisine (choices of spaghetti, ziti, or lasagna accompanied by delicious bread and a soft drink) at a favorite local restaurant: Italy Restaurant at the corner of Browning Drive and Pioneer Pkwy. $12.00 tickets must be purchased in advance, and will cover the entire cost of your romantic evening meal and concert. Get your tickets now. This event is sure to sell out fast!!! Tickets will be on sale from now through February 14, and can be purchased via choir students through Feb. 14, or in the choir room between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. or from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. each day until Feb 7. You can also email lpease@aisd.net to arrange for tickets if these times are not convenient for you (please reference valentines dinner in the subject of the email). Proceeds benefit the SHHS choir program. Any additional donations will be gratefully accepted at the event.

Solo/Ensemble Competitions: February 18 8:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
There are actually two solo competitions going on in two different locations on the same day. This is your chance to perform the solo you have been working on in class for a judge, and to have the chance to win a medal. The actual UIL contest is in Mansfield at Legacy High School. The cost for that contest is $15.00 per entry, and entry fees are due by Friday, Jan. 13. You will need to provide your own transportation and your own accompanist for this UIL contest. The AISD contest is at Arlington High School. The cost for this contest is $7.50 per entry, and entry fees are due by Friday, Jan. 20. I may be able to provide transportation for this contest, and I will definitely be able to provide piano accompaniment here. Your fees must be paid by the required date, or I will not be able to enter you. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to practice for any kind of audition. If you are planning to audition for music scholarships for college, then you should definitely attend one of these contests. You will get judge's critiques and helpful comments, not only about your singing, but also about auditions in general. BTW, you must be academically eligible to participate in either contest.

Open House Performance: March 5 6:00 p.m.
This is a required performance for all 2nd, and 6th period choir students. Please invite your parents! Call time for the joint rehearsal is 5:15 pm. in the choir room. There will be a brief meeting/concert in the auditorium at 6:00 p.m. You will be finished singing by 6:30. Dress is choir t-shirt and un-holey jeans. Once you are finished singing, please take your parents around and introduce them to your teachers. This is important for you and for them!!!! (You also get extra credit for bringing your parents by to meet me.) 1st and 5th period choir students receive extra credit for bringing your parents by to meet me in the cafeteria after the meeting as well. If you need forms notarized, I can do so in the cafeteria that evening.

Secret Santa Celebrations: SHHS Choir Room, December 15-16 during class
Each choir class at Sam Houston will have a Secret Santa Celebration during their class period on December 15 or 16 (A day or B day). We will draw names for this on November 21 - 22 to give you plenty of time to find the perfect trinket ($8.00 or less) gift for your secret person. This is not mandatory, so if you wish not to participate then you do not have to do so. If you are not planning to get a gift for someone, then please do not put your name in the pot to receive one. Don't forget to bring something musical and edible to share with the class that day - BE CREATIVE!!!!

Skating Party: Arlington Skatium, December 16, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m
This is a chance for ALL Sam Houston Choir members to mix, meet, and mingle. BRING YOUR FRIENDS!!!! You don't want to miss this choir event. Family and guests of choir students are welcome. $8.00 admission includes skate rental. The price goes down with more people present, so the more the merrier (and the less expensive….). Meet us at the Skatium at 6:00 for the best discount. Address is 5515 S. Cooper St. Just past Green Oaks on the East side of Cooper Street.

UTA Audition Clinic, October 15 - UTA
This is the first audition in the series of auditions for membership in the All-District, All-Region, I highly encourage anyone who is planning to do solo and ensemble, Round 2 and higher in the All-State auditions, or especially college scholarship auditions to take advantage of this opportunity being offered by UTArlington. This will help prepare you for any of these auditions, and much of what is taught here can also be utilized for things like job interviews, college interviews, formal class presentations, etc.
